Students in the Blackbottom Group EV Automotive Mobility program in Detroit will receive hands-on training in electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engines (ICE). The program aims to equip youth with valuable skills and knowledge related to automotive technology. Here are some of the things that students can learn in this program:

Electric Vehicle Technology: Students will gain an understanding of the principles and components of electric vehicles. They will learn about electric motors, batteries, power electronics, and charging infrastructure.

Electric Vehicle Maintenance: Students will be trained in the maintenance and servicing of electric vehicles. This can include tasks such as inspecting and replacing batteries, troubleshooting electrical systems, and performing routine maintenance procedures.

Internal Combustion Engines: Students will also receive training in internal combustion engine technology. They will learn about different types of engines, their components, and how they function.

Automotive Repair and Diagnosis: The program may cover general automotive repair and diagnostic skills applicable to both electric vehicles and internal combustion engines. Students can learn how to identify and troubleshoot issues, perform repairs, and maintain various vehicle systems.

Safety and Regulations: Students will be educated on safety protocols specific to electric vehicles and internal combustion engines. They will learn about proper handling of high-voltage systems, safe practices in automotive workshops, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Sustainability and Environmental Impact: The program may highlight the importance of sustainable transportation and the environmental benefits of electric vehicles. Students can learn about reducing carbon emissions, energy efficiency, and the role of EVs in combating climate change.

Hands-On Experience: The program emphasizes hands-on training, allowing students to work directly with electric vehicles and internal combustion engines. They may have opportunities to dismantle and reassemble components, diagnose problems, and practice maintenance and repair tasks under supervision.

My parents Connie and Robert Washington have always been givers. I believe they got it from their parents. Both of my grandmothers were educators. I will never forget the amount of people that shared stories of how my grandmother showed up for them at her funeral. And then, a few years after she passed, I met someone in Seattle, WA - hundreds of miles away from where she lived her whole life, in Youngstown, OH - who came up to me and asked if I was Nancye Washington's granddaughter after hearing my last name. She teared up at knowing I was related and shared the impact my grandmother had our her life. Her story of giving continues to live on.
